Pipe Relining Guide

Pre-Relining Inspection

Pre-Relining Inspection

Relining quotes should start with footage. Without an interior inspection, no one can honestly say whether a line can be lined, or whether it should be replaced.

Symptoms we're called for

  • A relining quote with no inspection footage
  • Conflicting advice about lining versus replacement
  • A line with known roots, offsets or collapses

Property types

  • Sanitary and storm laterals
  • Building drain sections
  • Process lines (by arrangement)

Methods used

  • CCTV inspection with located defects
  • Condition classification: cracks, offsets, bellies, collapses
  • Access and dimension checks needed for lining

Limitations, stated plainly

  • Inspection reports evidence; lining suitability remains the contractor's and engineer's determination
  • Heavily deformed or collapsed lines typically cannot be lined

What you receive

  • Inspection footage and located findings
  • A condition summary with lining-relevant observations
  • Questions to put to any relining contractor

Next steps

  • Require footage with any relining quote
  • Compare lining and replacement against the evidence
  • Re-inspect after works
